Type: Artificial Synthetic Soccer & Sportfields Proyects

This is a landscape and hardscape project where Better Than Real Artificial Grass did major work involving fake turf and other landscaping elements for a client in Danville, in the San Ramon Valley area, in Contra Costa County, California. Originally this was a tennis court located in front of this property in a restricted and exclusive residential area. The homeowner is a recently retired businessman that wanted to create the ultimate activity yard at this property to enjoy the outdoors doing different activities with family and friends.

The first step was to demolish the tennis court surface with an excavator to remove approximately 80 cy of surface. Then a new base was created using class II base rock topped off with decomposed granite. This new base was graded and compacted to provide the proper drainage to the activity courtyard.

We build the bocce ball using redwood for the frame with a stain color finish. The type of fake turf installed for the play area was Majestic 48-oz Verde Green. The bocce ball area measures 80 ft x 10 ft = 800 sqft.

We built a stone patio in a circular shape using bluestone flagstones, which were laid out over a decomposed granite base. The diameter of this circled patio is 12 ft and the total square footage is 113 sqft. Then we proceeded to lay down a pathway using squared bluestone step stones going from the front stairs of the property to the hitting cages and then to the bocce ball court.

The putting green with five holes was built using fake grass type Majestic 48-oz Verde Green in the play area and the type of fake sod installed in the fringe area was SD-85 Field Green with dead ends. Ondulations and contours were created in the play surface to make the game more challenging. Also a bunker was created next to the putting green to chip golf balls off. The putting green measures approximately 50 ft x 40 ft = 2,000 sqft. Also 4 boulder stones weighting approximately 300 lbs each were place around one side of the putting green to enhance the landscape on this side of the courtyard.

Artificial grass surface was installed in the remaining space left within the previous tennis court space. The type of fake lawn installed is Victory-69 Field Green.

2 chipping cages measuring 20 ft x 10 ft = 200 sqft each were build in one corner of the courtyard. Metal posts were installed with a rubber cover to protect them from any impact. Then custom-ordered double netting were hung to complete the cages.

In the middle of the courtyard a dry creek area was created with gold decomposed granite surface. Then in one side we spread river stones measuring between 4" and 6" thick. A custom-built redwood garden bridge measuring 14 ft long x 3 ft wide with rope rails, which was built according to the client's specifications was placed on top of the river stones. Then we planted shrubs and 6 dwarf palm trees to create a drought tolerant tropical landscape.

The last thing to do was creating a 4 ft wide stripe of decomposed granite bordering the courtyard. Then in two of the sides of this DG stripe we planted approximately 90 privet plants (Ligustrum Texanum), 5-gal size, at a distance of 4 ft apart from each other, with an automatic drip system to control water use.

Better Than Real Artificial Grass spent approximately 3 weeks to complete this project from start to finish. The entire area courtyard measures 120 ft x 60 ft = 7,200 sqft.
