To make the fibers in the artificial synthetic grass, the materials used are Polyethylene, Polypropylene or Nylon. For commercial, residential and sport grasses, the two options available are either Nylon (this is the material used since the beginning of this industry and its used has become less common) and Polyethylene (this has become really popular in the last 10 years). The latter has become the most used material nowadays for many reasons. Polyethylene is the most durable plastic available and is used to make water pipes, toys, Tupperware, etc. Polyethylene is also non-toxic, recyclable, strong and environmentally friendly. For the tatch (small curly fibers that add resistance to the artificial grass) either material can be used. It's easy to find in the market Polyethylene grasses with either a nylon tatch or a polyethylene tatch (in the latter case the artificial grass is called 100% polyethylene). For artificial synthetic putting greens, the options available are Polypropylene and Nylon. For this application, Nylon is the best-suited material because it provides a strong, reliable, durable and most importantly, maintenance-free golf field. Also, the ball speed can be controlled and customized by adding fine sand on the surface. For the backing, a two-layer coating is manufactured to provide a strong backing, where 2 layers of Polybac are used for the primary backing and Urethane is used as the secondary coating. All the artificial synthetic grass products carried by Better Than Real Artificial Grass have the same backing.
